Hello everyone, new to the site here. My name is Adam. I do allot of boating on Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron.

Find Mariner 8 HP (2 Cylinder) (2-Stroke) (International) Outboard Motor Parts by Serial. Mercury serial numbers are usually found on an ID tag on the engine.

Mostly fishing and duck hunting, but some other recreational boating as well. Anyhow, over the weekend i acquired an 8 hp Mariner Outboard from the farmer where i keep my camper where i deer hunt. This motor hasnt been ran in a couple of years and the previous owner does not know the year or have the manual. So, im in need of some help. Does anyone know of a link where i can plug in my motors info and come up with a year range.

Im also in need of a schematic for the carb as its my belief it needs to be cleaned or needs a diaphram in it. Would be most helpful in finding the correct replacement parts. My motors info is as follows: Mariner 8 677 S 011100 I believe it needs a carb cleaning or diaphram because as long as i spray gas into the carb with a spray bottle the engine will run fine. As soon as i stop the motor stops. So, its not getting fuel. I have a sneaky feeling that the diaphram is all dried up and needs replacement or something else in there is gummed up.Dang two strokes. Also, it has a plastic canister style bowl over the fuel filter.

You unscrew it and then theres a smaller tubular screen filter inside. Where the bowl screws on its leaking.

Seems like it should have a seal in there, but there was none when i removed it. When you pump the bulb you can see the gas filling up in there and then when it gets to the top it begins to leak.

I wonder if it was taken off in the past and the seal was lost? Seems like it should have one. Anyhow, the motor looks to be in fantastic shape, very clean etc, just has that fuel leak and then the IMV a carb issue. Im sure That filter is probably sucking some air as well. Much appreciated.Adam. Hi, I purchased an 8Hp Mariner in 1985 for my 7 years old son. We lived on the NC coast and the motor stayed in the saltwater until we left in 1996. As a matter of fact he still uses it. It was stored for several years when we moved to SC and he decided to see if it still worked and on the second pull it fired and ran great he still uses it in creeks and ponds. Never had any problems with it. I did replace the water pump as routine maintenance.

You have a buttet proof motor. I went on ebay and purchased a Clymer Mariner OB Shop Manual for years 1976-1989 2-220Hp Mariners.

Shows all you need. Parts can be bought at most any mariner/mercury dealer. My Mariner is a 1984 Model 6G1S. I believe if you look at the ID number the last number is the year. Hi again, I meant to mention, on the site I looked at it says, that the 8 hp Mariner was made by Yamaha from 1974-1987.

They have a plate under the cowling with a serial # stamped on it. On the Mercury built 8's these have a Welch plug, looks like a freeze plug on the starboard side of the motor with the serial # on it. Like I said my serial and model # is on the mounting bracket riveted to it and states its made in Japan. I never realized it was also under the cowling because with it on the mounting bracket the serial and model # can be switched. There is also a list of 8hp Mariner Serial # with years. I found this on.
