3 years ago Hi evan, I’ve had my ’85 xj700n for over eight years now and have had the same problem since I bought it. The guy I purchased it from decided to winterize it that year, that was fun to clean up. Afterwards, it ran great at speed and high rpm, but the low end was sluggish, especially off the line. My plugs foul up every ride and require cleaning before the next. Realized it was running rich so I took the air cleaner out and it seemed to help the performance, but my plugs and exhaust pipes still sooty.

Took the carbs offagainchecked the floats and levelsagainAs well as the gas levelsAll good. It’s obviously getting too much gas. I’m positive it’s not the float needlespretty sure it’s the needle and jet assemblies toward the top of the carburetor and I think a second needle jet directly below it according to the original service manual. I’ve looked for parts, can’t find ’em. I’ve found the main jets I guess they’re called, but I need the whole assembly.any ideas where to find four of each? I’ve been told they’re discontinued and should hope someone in like Fargo, ND might have some in his barn. П™‚ Let me know if you have any ideas.
