Hello, I have an ancient Stihl FS66 string trimmer with some issues. It needs a tune up - no big deal there, but the larger issue is that it appears that there is a worn out bearing in the shaft. When first firing it up, all is smooth for about a minute, then there is a very loud vibration coming from the trimmer head area. It is such a strong vibration that it is very uncomfortable to just hold the trimmer, and makes work not fun. Anyway, it sounds to me like a worn bearing - worn enough that the shaft is vibrating in the bearing race or something. Anyway, I took it to the local Ace Hardware for service (they're the local authorized Stihl dealer) thinking it was a simple fix, and the guy there told me I would have to replace the entire bottom half of the trimmer.
So my question to the pros here: Can this be true? I find it hard to believe that a company like Stihl wouldn't make the unit serviceable - expecially on an old unit that was made back in the day when everything was serviceable on purpose. So, the cost was going to be in the neighborhood of $200.

For that I'll spend $300 and buy a new trimmer, but I hate to toss a perfectly good trimmer if it needs a $5 bearing. Any thoughts? Is there an online dealer for Stihl parts?

I'm sure I can do the repair for probably half myself (yes, I'm capable) if I can get the parts online. Regards, Jeff.
